Ethiopian tax & statutory compliance
Compliance that works with or without a connection.
Monthly VAT and PAYE/pension, withholding tax, quarterly advance profit tax, and the annual licence and audit renewals — tracked in one dashboard, in both the Gregorian and Ethiopian calendars, and still working in the districts where the internet isn't.
No card required · Set up in about two minutes · Amharic and English
The problem
Compliance is high-frequency. Most businesses track it in a spreadsheet.
Ethiopian corporate compliance is not an annual event. It is monthly VAT and PAYE/pension, quarterly advance profit tax, withholding tax on every payment you make, and a licence and audit renewal that arrives whether or not you were ready. Miss a deadline and the penalty is automatic.
Then there is the decade-long paper trail: receipts, invoices and audit records that must survive ten years, in a filing cabinet that floods, in an office that moves.
Cloud-only tools assume a connection that the average commercial district does not reliably provide. So the work goes back to the spreadsheet.
Deadlines you have to remember yourself
No automatic statutory calendar, no reminder that the 9th is close, no record of what was filed last Meskerem.
Receipts in a drawer
A ten-year retention obligation held together by physical paper and one person's memory.
Software that stops when the network does
The moment the connection drops mid-entry, the tool becomes a blank screen — and the work moves back to paper.
The product
Three things no spreadsheet can do
Work through the outage, sync when it returns
Every edit is written to your device first and queued locally. When the connection comes back the queue replays automatically — you do not press anything, and nothing is lost.
If someone else edited the same record in the meantime, Gize does not silently overwrite either version. It shows you both, side by side, and asks which should win. For financial records that difference matters.
- ✓ Installable as an app on phone, tablet or desktop
- ✓ Queued changes replay on reconnect, automatically
- ✓ Conflicts surfaced for review — never dropped
Offline mode
Edits are held on the device and replayed the moment the network returns.
Dual calendar

Ethiopian

Every due date is shown in both calendars at once. Conversion is exact, including the Pagume boundary that a fixed seven-year offset gets wrong.
Built in Ethiopian time
Your filing officer reads the Ethiopian calendar. Your bank reads the Gregorian one. Gize shows both, everywhere a date appears — so nobody has to convert in their head and get it wrong by a week.
The interface is fully Amharic-capable with proper Ethiopic typography, and the Ethiopian fiscal year is understood natively rather than bolted on.
- ✓ Exact Gregorian ⇄ Ethiopian conversion
- ✓ Amharic script throughout
- ✓ Ethiopian fiscal-year aware
A retention window the database enforces
Ethiopian tax law requires records to be kept for a minimum of ten years. Upload a receipt, invoice or audit record and Gize stores it, fingerprints it, and stamps the date it may be destroyed.
That retention date is calculated by the database itself, not by the application — so it cannot be shortened, faked, or set by whoever is uploading.
- ✓ SHA-256 fingerprint on every upload
- ✓ Integrity verified against what was received
- ✓ Retention computed by the database, not the client
Coverage
Every recurring obligation, in one calendar
Each obligation carries its due date, estimated and settled amounts, filing status and notes — and appears in the urgency channels on your dashboard.
VAT
Monthly returns and payment, with input-credit tracking against exposure.
PAYE & Pension
Monthly employee income tax and pension contributions.
Withholding Tax
Tracked per period so credits are not lost.
Advance Profit Tax
Quarterly instalments scheduled and settled against the year.
Trade Licence & Audit
Annual renewals flagged well ahead, not the week they expire.
Daily action log
A short checklist of what was actually done, and when.
Who it is for
One login, however many entities you answer for
SMEs & private companies
A single entity, category A, B or C, with the recurring obligations for that category already set up. Your owner or finance officer runs it directly.
Accounting & audit firms
MOST COMMONMany client companies under one login, each walled off from the others. Bring in accountants and auditors with the access they need and nothing more.
Independent consultants
You work from wherever the client is, which is often somewhere the connection is poor. The offline queue is the feature you will notice most.

Security & data
How your records are handled
Concrete statements about what the system actually does — no badges we have not earned.
Passwords
Stored as PBKDF2-SHA256 hashes with 100,000 iterations and a per-account salt. Never in plain text, never reversible.
Sessions
Changing a password immediately signs out every other session on the account. Temporary passwords can only be used to set a new one.
Permissions
Enforced on the server, not hidden in the interface. A client company's records are unreachable from another client's account.
Audit trail
Access changes and administrative actions are recorded with who did them and when.
Document integrity
Every upload is fingerprinted and verified against the bytes actually received. A mismatch is rejected.
Retention
The ten-year destruction date is computed by the database, so it cannot be forged or shortened by any client.
Runs on Cloudflare Workers, D1 and R2. Your data lives in your own Cloudflare account.
FAQ
Questions, answered properly
Does it really work with no internet? +
Yes. The app installs on your device and keeps working with the network switched off. Your edits are stored locally and queued; when the connection returns they are sent automatically. You can close the app entirely and the queue survives.
What happens if my colleague edited the same record while I was offline? +
Gize keeps both versions and shows them side by side, then asks which should be kept. It never quietly discards a write — for financial records that is the difference between a sync feature and a compliance incident.
Which taxes and obligations does it cover? +
Monthly VAT, monthly PAYE and pension, withholding tax, quarterly advance profit tax, and the annual trade licence and audit renewals. Each one tracks its due date, estimated and settled amounts, status and notes.
Are Ethiopian calendar dates supported, or is it Gregorian only? +
Both, everywhere a date appears. Conversion is exact rather than a fixed year offset, so the Pagume boundary between Ethiopian years is handled correctly. Amharic is supported with proper Ethiopic typography.
Can I manage several client companies from one login? +
That is what the Firm plan is for. Each client company is a separate entity with its own TIN, VAT number, tax category and obligations — and its records are isolated from every other client's.
How do I pay, and can I pay without a foreign card? +
Through Chapa, including Telebirr. Pricing is in birr — no dollar subscription and no international card required.
What happens when the 14-day trial ends? +
Your data stays exactly where it is and nothing is deleted. You choose a plan to keep working; until then the account is simply limited.
Who owns the data, and where is it stored? +
You do. It is stored in Cloudflare's infrastructure — a relational database for records and object storage for documents — and can be exported. Storing ten-year financial records should not mean handing ownership of them to a vendor.
Can I cancel, and what happens to my records? +
Cancel at any time from the subscription page. Because retention obligations outlive a subscription, your documents are not deleted the moment you stop paying — you can export them.
